You may recall the 2016 uproar caused by the release of the Prisma photo-editing program. Images of friends and relatives processed through these vintage painting filters flooded our social media feeds. Prisma eventually became so popular that its servers crashed from so many users trying to access them at once (for more on this, check out our interview with the app’s creators). Prisma’s “photo to art” technique has been copied by a number of other apps, but only Prisma has found widespread success. That, though, appears to be shifting. There’s a new photo editor on the block, and it may just bring life back to our feeds.
The AI-powered art app Voila has recently become a phenomenon. This photo editor lets you transform yourself and your friends into lovable cartoon characters. The software uses AI to convert your photos into many creative forms, including but not limited to paintings, cartoons, and caricatures. And it’s currently all the rage on the Internet.
Learn how to use Voila AI Artist to transform your photo into a cartoon.
The simplicity of usage contributes to Voila AI Artist’s widespread popularity. Here are the easy instructions you need to follow:
Get the Voila AI Musician here!
You’ll need the app in order to cartoonize your appearance. The software is free and can be downloaded on both iOS and Android. You’ll need Android 5.0 or later and iOS 12 or later to use it. The app is accessible for both iOS and Android, albeit the Android version was unavailable in India at the time of publication. So here we go with an iOS explanation, hoping that the Android version isn’t too dissimilar.
Pick an Editing Method
The software will prompt you to provide permissions as soon as you activate it after download. Once you’ve completed those, you’ll be sent to a window where you can select from four distinct types of cartoon, Renaissance, 2D cartoon, and caricature editing options. Pick the one that appeals to you the most. Also, there is no need to sign up for the app in advance; you may begin using it right immediately.
Make a choice and take a picture!
After selecting an editing mode, the program will request access to your camera roll. You can either provide permission for the app to access your photos, which will then appear in the app for you to choose from, or you can use one of the three options at the app’s bottom: Camera, Gallery, or Celebrities. Selecting the Gallery option will once again open your phone’s gallery, while using the Camera option will need you to grant the app access to your camera roll. The final option, Celebrity, allows you to look for celebrity images on the Internet.
Initiate thought processing
Choose or snap a photo, and the app will return your cartoon self after some processing time (which it will tell you is at standard speed and may be done faster for a cost).

Make your choice
The final product of the software is an image collage featuring your original photo in the upper left corner among many other selections (including, in the case of 2D cartoons, Royalty, Baby, and Cartoon). From the choices at the bottom of your screen, select the one you like best; 3D Cartoons offers the most (6 total).
Reuse and store
To save a certain cartoon character, you’ll need to click the corresponding save symbol in the upper right corner of your screen. Here is the final product: your caricature, with the original photo reduced to a thumbnail size on the left and the app’s logo on the right, or you can swipe to the left or right to select just the caricature and logo, or to the right or left to select an equally sized original photo and cartoon. You may save and share your cartoon self directly from the app alongside a variety of other features. Choose the most appropriate option, customize it to your specifications, and then save it, send it through email, or post it on social media.
The commercials are annoying, but it largely works.
The app accomplishes its stated goals. You’ll end up looking like a character out of an anime. With those big eyes, teeny nose, and luminous face, you’ll feel like a star right out of a cartoon. In most cases, that is. In some situations, the program may not function properly. You can’t use the app on pet photos because it can’t modify animal images. It also can’t do more than one face at a time. Therefore, if you have a photo with multiple people in it, you must choose one of them in order to proceed.
If your face is not dead center in a solo shot, you may only get a portion of it in cartoon mode because the software isn’t the most consistent and sometimes fails to detect a face in the same image which it had worked on earlier. Additionally, it seems to have trouble cartooning up teeth. It was a little strange that all our photos of us smiling widely were altered to depict more subdued lip stretches.
And while the cartoony emotions may be free, the test of your tolerance may not be. The app is completely saturated with commercials. In fact, you’ll need to watch one anytime you add cartoony flourishes to one of your photos. You’ll get constant reminders from Voila AI Artist to upgrade to a paid account so that you may skip the adverts and analyze images more quickly. Regarding processing, there are currently no meaningful editing tools available, thus you cannot change the effect’s intensity, contrast, or brightness. The issue of privacy is also relevant. Some users may be bothered by the fact that the app collects and utilizes their data regardless of whether or not they grant the app permission to monitor them.
The software has generated a lot of interest, but we think that, once the novelty wears off, it will require a great deal of patience to use on a regular basis or on numerous photographs at once. Unless you’re willing to pay the steep subscription prices of Rs 269 per week, Rs 549 per month, or Rs 2,699 per year, you won’t be able to access the service.
However, after everything is said and done, Voila AI Artist is a great time.
The cartoon isn’t terrible, but it will try your endurance.
Quite a few commercials were present.
The app may become as popular as Prisma by 2021. However, it is not yet perfect. The addition of more editing tools and effects (how about music from animated movies like Toy Story and Lion King?) would be appreciated. …and, you know, much more strategically put and timed advertisements. In our opinion, it is well worth the download.
